Itsuno tweeted out “Happy new year!” while promoting Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, encouraging fans to play the game on “new hardware” if they were able to get themselves a PS5 or Xbox Series X. Meanwhile, Itsuno encouraged those that can’t play Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition to try the Vergil DLC, which is available for the last-generation version of the extreme combat action game.

Itsuno then capped off the tweet by acknowledging his “new project” which he described as “under construction” and “on track.” Itsuno noted that his next project is “still a long way off,” but encouraged fans to stay tuned for the announcement. Whether or not this means Itsuno’s next game will be announced in 2021 is hard to say, but fans should keep an eye out in the months ahead.

It’s also unclear exactly what Itsuno’s next game will be. The running theory is that Itsuno’s next project will be none other than Dragon’s Dogma 2, which he apparently was given permission to do after directing Devil May Cry 5. If so, the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date is expected to be some point in the middle of 2022, so an announcement in 2021 would make sense. Perhaps it will be featured at E3 this year, assuming the big gaming event even happens.

While Dragon’s Dogma 2 is just a rumor at this stage, the rumor stems from a very credible source. Unfortunately for Capcom, the company was the victim of a ransomware attack that saw many of its future projects leaked online. One such project was Dragon’s Dogma 2, which is how fans already know about the planned 2022 release date.

Of course, it’s always possible that Itsuno is working on something else and Capcom has assigned others to work on Dragon’s Dogma 2, though that seems unlikely. Quite a few other Capcom gaming projects were leaked by the ransomware attackers, including a slew of new Resident Evil titles, so who knows what Itsuno is making. Fans of Itsuno’s work will just need to standby for more information on that front.
